BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Prior to launch of RadioBDC I was Music Director at WFNX in Boston. I have been doing radio in the Boston market for over 25 years now. I started when I was 9.
1. What do you remember the most from all your years at WFNX?
The camaraderie that we had as a group, the relationships that we made with the artist that we loved and the listeners that supported us over the years. It's great to be able to continue this and take things to a new level with RadioBDC.
2. It's been almost two years since RadioBDC launched. What does everyone need to know about the station?
RadioBDC is a 24/7 streaming digital station with apps on all platforms that features an eclectic mix of the finest in Modern/Indie/Alternative Music. We are focused on giving our listeners a one of a kind experience that they can't get from a music service or terrestrial radio station on the dial in Boston. Check us out at www.boston.com/radio.
3. Tell us about the name RadioBDC and your target audience?
RadioBDC is Radio Boston Dot Com. Our target audience is made up of music enthusiast, 18-35, who are tech savvy and are active in the Boston music scene. We also have a very strong and loyal upper demo as well.
Seriously, anyone with a phone or a computer.
4. What is it like working for The Boston Globe?
Tremendous marketing support and facilities - as professional as they come. Having a cafeteria on site with a chef that caters to the bands and artists that play sessions for us is such a bonus, not to mention all the free newspapers.
5. What do you love most about working at RadioBDC?
The team and our great listeners.
6. What makes the station unique?
RadioBDC is focused on breaking emerging artists and super serving our listeners. From the time we signed on till now we have had over 200 events. We are bringing more free shows and performances, from our "Live in the Lab" series to hosting bands at the Museum of Fine Arts and the "RadioBDC + 1 Series shows giving listeners the opportunity to see amazing music for free.
7. How would you describe the RadioBDC playlist and tell us about some of the artists that you have been leaders on?
The RadioBDC playlist is made up of an eclectic mix of emerging artists that we are passionate about. No station in the Alternative or AAA format is playing as many currents as we are.
We were the first to play Bastille (our first spin was on 1/27/13), The 1975, Lorde, Jake Bugg, American Authors and our new favorites Junior Prom and SKATERS. I could go on and on and on.
8. How does the weekday "Social Countdown" work?
I don't really want to give up our byzantine formula, but you did ask....The Social Countdown is the first real time social chart in the world. Without giving away too many secrets... We had a custom platform created that gathers and ranks (Artist and Song) data from social media, various music sources, and up voting by RadioBDC listeners at http://socialcountdown.boston.com.
Weekdays at 5pm Adam 12 counts down the top 10 songs of the day.
9. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _______?
Coffee
10. What would surprise people most about you?
When I was a kid I wanted to play for the Boston Celtics.
