A San Diegan, born and raised, "I was born with the music inside me" (Ray Charles).
The beacon that is 91X; gets me out of bed, out of ruts. "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain" (Bob Marley).
I earned my BA in Communications with an emphasis in media production at Cal State San Marcos. "Our passion is our strength" (Billie Joe Armstrong) and I'm blessed to say I've worked for San Diego's 91X, San Francisco's CBS Radio's LIVE 105, CBS Radio's KCBS/Los Angeles, and X1FM.COM.
"My role in society, or in any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel" (John Lennon). The soundboard is my wand of expression as "music is the strongest form of magic" (Marilyn Manson). "Music can change the world because it can change people" (Bono).
"Music is the soundtrack of your life" (Dick Clark). Tune in to Adam Lisicky 6:00pm till midnight on San Diego's 91X.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
As a youngster in San Diego, I was always interested in music. Growing up listening to Robin Roth, Chris Muckley, and Mike Halloran on the radio gave me insight as to what was new in the music industry. Since the internet was pretty bare, the radio is where I went to feed my hungry music palate. I never knew working for radio was attainable and within reach until I was fortunate enough to go to my grade school friend's dad's work. He is an on-air personality. He gave me courage and inspiration to pursue my dream of spreading the love and knowledge of alternative music to the airwaves. I have been completely in love with everything about radio since then. I knew I found a home on the radio.
2. After interning at 91X in 2006, what led you back to the station?
San Diego will always be home to me as it is my hometown. Having the opportunity to work alongside the on-air personalities I aspired to be is surreal. It's great to be back and have the ability to visit with my parents and sister weekly.
3. How have you been so fortunate to work at two legendary Alternative stations like Live 105 and 91X?
I have been blessed with great support and mentors. My parents encouraged me to pursue my dreams by building the foundational knowledge of radio and journalism at Cal State San Marcos. Staying true to my love of music and working hard attracts great opportunities!
4. How would you describe Adam In The Eve on 91X?
Adam In The Eve on 91X is a very interactive program. There are very few people that use phones to call in anymore so we created "Thumb Driven Radio"; giving listeners direct contact with the station via text.
5. What makes your show unique?
The interactive aspect of "Thumb Driven Radio." Listeners drive the music we play by texting "up" or "down" if they like or dislike a song played. We like to reward listener feedback with random giveaways to those that text.
6. What do you love most about your job?
I love every aspect of my job; playing music, behind the scenes experiences at music venues, mentors, and building a greater sense of community in San Diego's alternative music scene.
7. What is it like working for Mike Halloran?
Working with Halloran, our program director, is great! He knows how to push boundaries. He is truly bringing 91X back to its roots. He is spontaneous and refreshing. You never really know what he is going to do next. He is known for bringing in an artist last minute to talk to our listeners on air. For example, he brought in Nate Mendel of the Foo Fighters a few hours before his show to chat on-air during my evening program several weeks ago. The other day, I heard him play the new "Faith No More" single twice in a row. "Just in case you missed the first half of the song" (Halloran, 2015). We are an independent station and Halloran truly embraces that aspect of 91X. Any other corporate radio station would freak out hearing the same song played twice in a row.
8. Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
My favorite on-air personality is Dennis Cruz. He used to produce John London and the House Party on The Beat in Los Angeles and FREE FM in San Francisco. He's one of the most hard working, hilarious and well thought-out people in the industry. I'm stoked he's back on the air producing for Don Bleu in the mornings on KOSF in San Francisco.
9. What may surprise people most about you?
I have not eaten meat in over 11 years.
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without _______________?
Connecting with loved ones.
