Jason Collins has become the first openly gay player in the NBA. They say Collins has great ball handling skills...and he's also good with the basketball.
Rumor has it that SNOOKI and fiancé Jionni LaValle are expecting their second child. Word is that she's in the early stages and is keeping things under wraps so it doesn't ruin some lucrative appearances she has lined up.
JENNIFER LOPEZ will star in the detective drama Shades of Blue for NBC. Lopez will play a single mom and dirty cop working undercover for the FBI's anti-corruption task force. The show will debut in the fall of 2015.
- Aberdeen, Washington honored hometown legend KURT COBAIN on what would have been his 47th birthday by declaring February 20th "Kurt Cobain Day." Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson said the town "should have done this a whole heckuva long time ago," but many are criticizing the statue of Cobain that shows him crying. (See here)
There's a new scam to be aware of involving the IRS. Someone claiming to be from the IRS calls people to demand they put money on a prepaid card in order to pay their tax debts. One woman became so terrified that she immediately drove to a bank while the caller stayed on her cell phone. However, she handed the teller a note that said "Robbery in Progress." When police arrived at the bank and she explained what was going on, the officer talked to the caller and the con artist threatened to jail the cop if he didn't pay the back-due taxes. The calls can sound real because they have the last four digits of your Social Security number and they know your name. However, the Internal Revenue Service wants everyone to know that they don't call anyone to demand money and any contact with you is likely to be in the form of a letter.
The Richard Petty-Danica Patrick-Tony Stewart saga continues. Richard Petty said he would accept Tony Stewart's offer to set up a head-to-head race between he and Danica. It started when Petty said Danica could only win a race is if nobody else showed up. Stewart is Patrick's car owner and suggested the match race.
Pennsauken, New Jersey's 42-year-old Carlos Ruiz broke into a home and stole a sound system and other valuables. Carlos made a clean getaway, but then made the mistake of returning a half hour later to swipe the remote control he forgot to take. Carlos has been charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief and in what may explain his absentmindedness police say his crime was fueled by his addiction to heroin. However, he apparently didn't use his ill-gotten gains for other commitments as he was also wanted for failure to pay child support.
