The number one movie this weekend was Lucy. I don't want to spoil the plot, but at the end Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown just as he's about to kick it.
In case you were wondering, CHARLIZE THERON and SEAN PENN are not engaged. It turns out that the diamond ring seen on Charlize's finger was a gift to herself. There have been rumors they plan to marry this summer and adopt a sibling for Theron's 2-year-old son Jackson.
JIM PARSONS says he doesn't know if he's returning to BIG BANG THEORY. On the season seven finale, his character Sheldon leaves on a train, leading him to wonder if he's being written off the show. The cast has asked for huge raises to $1 million each per episode.
- NICKI MINAJ will appear in animated form on an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network's "Steven Universe." Minaj will appear as a character called Sugilite on the August 21st episode.
In the first of a six-part series, The New York Times has called for an end to the "prohibition" of marijuana, saying the current ban "[inflicts] great harm on society just to prohibit a substance far less dangerous than alcohol." Editor Andrew Rosenthal wrote in a blog post that the decision to back legalizing marijuana was "long in the making," and "as more and more states liberalized their marijuana laws in open defiance of the federal ban, it became clear to us that there had to be a national approach to the issue."
The Green Bay Packers have signed wide receiver Jordy Nelson to a new four-year contract extension worth $39 million, with $14.2 million guaranteed.
Two unnamed men forced their way into a rooming house in Newport News, Virginia with the intent of robbing the occupants. Apparently being the only two men in the country unable to attain a firearm, the bandits cleverly armed themselves with two pipes bound together to resemble a shotgun. The would-be victim, who later said he only had $13, quickly realized it wasn't a real shotgun and fought back. One of the crooks was hospitalized with injuries, the other fled.
