Orange becomes the new black today for Real Housewife of New Jersey TERESA GIUDICE as she's scheduled to check into prison to begin 15 months behind bars for fraudulently obtaining millions in mortgages and failing to file taxes along with her husband Joe. After she gets sprung, Joe will serve 41 months in prison and could be deported back to Italy. The judge agreed to let them serve their time separately so one parent could remain free to take care of their children.
More people spent New Year's Eve with RYAN SEACREST last week. Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest was the most watched of the night's specials with ratings up 6% over last year. Meanwhile numbers for NBC's "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly were down 6% from last year while Pitbull's New Year's Revolution on Fox trailed far behind.
U2'S BONO has revealed the extent of his injuries from his November bicycle accident and that he may never play guitar again. Bono says he broke his hand, shoulder, elbow and face. As for the possibility of not playing guitar again he said, "The band have reminded me that neither they nor Western civilization are depending on this."
Most everyone east of the Rockies will be feeling the coldest weather of the season this week. A series of "dangerously cold" arctic air masses will send temperatures 10-35 degrees below average for early January. Even worse, it's going to be windy as well. The first cold wave has already struck the Plains and Great Lakes and a second, even more frigid air mass will strike tomorrow. The high temperature today in International Falls, Minnesota will be only minus 7, with a wind chill of minus 45. In Chicago, the record low temperature of minus 10 could be smashed Thursday morning and even parts of Florida are likely to see wind chills in the teens. If you want to escape the cold, temperatures are forecast to be in the 60s and 70s in southern California and Arizona.
Longtime ESPN Sports Center anchor Stuart Scott died of cancer yesterday at the age of 49. Scott was diagnosed with cancer in November 2007 after he had to leave a Monday Night Football game to have his appendix removed and doctors discovered a tumor during surgery. (See Rich Eisen tribute here)
In Daytona Beach, Florida, John Arwood and Amber Campbell have come out of the closet. John and Amber said they were chased into a janitor's closet at Daytona State College by unidentified assailants and waited inside the locked closet for two days before calling 911. However, when police arrived, an officer discovered the closet had been unlocked the whole time. Among the items found in the closet was a scouring pad, which is commonly used to smoke crack cocaine. John and Amber were charged with trespassing and locked in a jail cell.
