McDonald's has announced plans to give raises to some 90,000 workers starting in July. The pay increase will raise those workers' salaries to $1 above the minimum wage and McDonald's said it expects the average hourly wage to rise to more than $10 an hour by the end of 2016. However, the group that's been pushing for fast food workers to be paid $15 an hour called it a weak move and a PR stunt for a company that made $5.6 billion in profits last year. The raises only apply to the 10 percent of McDonald's restaurants that are corporate owned and not the franchises.
The Miami Heat announced that guard Shabazz Napier will miss the remainder of the regular season after undergoing successful surgery for a sports hernia.
Delta Junction, Alaska's 21-year-old Aleksander Aleksandrovich Glushko allegedly crashed his dad's truck, which then became high centered on a pipe. Glushko then walked about three miles in the pre-dawn hours and helped himself to a forklift, which he intended to use to extract the truck from the pipe. Unfortunately for Glushko, but the time he got back to the scene of the accident, police were there and spotted him. Glushko attempted to evade police, which proved impossible on a forklift. You can probably guess that the last sentence of the story involves Glushko being arrested on DUI and vehicle theft charges.
