The preliminary results of a new study suggests that women who follow an olive oil-rich Mediterranean diet could dramatically reduce their risk of breast cancer, without cutting calories, doing additional exercise or taking medication. In fact, it's such a dramatic reduction that some say it may be too good to be true. The study found that women who were randomly assigned to follow a Mediterranean diet had a 68% lower risk of breast cancer after 4.8 years. They say that extra virgin olive oil seemed to be a key part of the diet. The same Spanish study found that, in 2013, a Mediterranean diet reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke or death from heart disease by 30%. Since this study wasn't conducted specifically as a study on breast cancer they say more research is needed.
