The Choice Is Yours...
November 6, 2012
The other day, I did a vlog about this subject in regards to an article I read about Christina Aguilera. Christina talked about overcoming issues with the execs at her label who have been hassling her about her weight since the start of her career.
Different situation, but the pressure those execs exerted on Christina and the way she felt for so many years as a result is similar to the rocky road just about everyone in our industry has traveled.
You know the feeling; you send out your aircheck in the hopes of landing that job that you KNOW you're perfect for ... and receive no response. Or a primetime shift opens up at the station you're at; you know you're ready for it, you deserve it, and this is your moment ... but your PD hires someone else, possibly not even looking within at his current talent for the position. Perhaps you work for a PD who, no matter how good you or other industry folks who've heard your work think you are, never has a kind word for you. You only see or hear from him/her when they don't like what you've done.
Most of us are already our own toughest critic, so it doesn't take too long before that inner critic is whispering; maybe even shouting at you: YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH! WHY ARE YOU KIDDING YOURSELF? YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!
Your confidence is now suffering; you're second-guessing every break and starting to believe there really is something wrong with you. When you fall victim to believing what others say (or don't say) about you, those things gain power over you and your life!
But there is good news here. You ALWAYS have the choice to choose what you believe! If you're tired of feeling the things I described above, remember you still have ultimate power over your life. If the thoughts inhabiting your head aren't working for you; if they're creating too much stress and pressure, you have the ability to change your thoughts. Remember, your thoughts ultimately become your actions.
With that in mind, what thoughts will you choose today?
