Kern Pioneer Village will open the childhood home of Country legend Merle Haggard on Sunday, April 9th with the Haggard Boxcar Festival. The event will feature live music from Haggard's sons, Ben and Noel, who will be accompanied by Haggard's band, The Strangers. Tours of the Haggard House will be led by Kern Pioneer Village Curator of Collections Lori Wear and volunteer docents. The boxcar house was moved to Kern Pioneer Village in 2015 and restored by George Taylor Louden.
"This will be an exciting way to celebrate the opening of the Haggard House and honor Merle Haggard, who meant so much to the Kern County community," said Kern County Museum Foundation Vice Chair Beth Pandol. For more information, visit www.BoxcarFest.org.
