Felontines & 3P
If you haven't had fun with www.meet-an-inmate.com you are missing a literal Disneyland of potential morning show content. Or afternoon content in the case of Russell Rush at Mix in San Antonio. He started a correspondence with a BBBW (thank you Kevin Callahan) inmate named Dirty Diana. And last month they took it to the next level. http://www.mix961.com/pages/therussellrushshow.html
A couple of years ago Dave Ryan did a bit on the KDWB website where he found 8 female listeners who had each spent at least one night in jail. He posted their smiling headshots and the contest was to match the listener to the crime, ie: "Cassiday to Solicitation". Kind of like this http://www.dmcityview.com/2013/02/12/name-that-crime-02-14/
There's an annual beauty pageant at a prison in Brazil and we'd talked about it with a couple of the stations as a possible bit. Mike McVay shares this example from the Cumulus Rock station in Atlanta where it was JUST done as the Prison Princess Pageant http://www.atlantasrockstation.com/common/page.php?pt=Prison+Princess+Pageant&id=1201&is_corp=0
Going Global
I heard a DJ at one of the other stations in town give a mention to "one of our regular listeners, listening on line at (website) in Belarus."
Okay. That's kinda cool. When 98PXY in Rochester started steaming, they had a globe on the website where little logos appeared where people were listening in from. Again, it was a KILLER visual.
When I went to China for our second adoption, I brought some station bumperstickers and placed them and took photos. Like this http://www.cpr-promotions.com/greatwall.htm (the Wild/Tampa sticker on a highway overpass in Nanjing almost got me arrested and 30-40 years in a penal colony harvesting organs)
What...if you did the Fritsch thing but with a logo, superimposed on a globe, that your worldwide listeners could download and shoot at vibing local spots?
Co-Worker Jill from the Clifton Radio/Greenville Bureau took me to a cool little bar on some island near Charleston. The wall was covered with photos that people had taken of their drink coasters, all over the world. In front of a pyramid. With the Eiffel Tower in the background. In Pisa. Again, why not a radio station? We're a lot more global than a bar in South Carolina.
