"Anyone Who Posts Anything About Miley Cyrus Will Be Fired"
Possibly the best line of 2013 goes to Paul Kaye, the Program Manager at 90.3 AMP-FM in Calgary.
Why? Because the market is experiencing the biggest floods in its history; 3x bigger than the floods of 2005 which were the biggest to date.
And since people use social media to get information, in a disaster, posting celeb gossip would qualify you for the Special Olympics, so Paul laid down the edict and they did a great job with it.
And from JT at Y-94 in Fargo where their floods come on appt. times: Lots of stories to be told on-air, we've done morning show bits where people make love connections while helping, people losing things like their wedding ring etc. and finding it miles away. Use your imagination, I would say 60% of the entertainment bits on-air were made up, but tied in to the "event". That's what it is, an event - the entire community won't really care about Kanye's baby name, they'll be thinking about all the crap that just happened and all the crap they have to deal with now.
Huge, Freaking, Stoopid Web Stats
As further proof that I was apparently wrong and semi-nudity DOES have a place on the internet, the annual barrage 'o clicks happened this morning at KDWB in the Twin Cities.
Last month was the annual Dave Ryan Booty Cruise and the folliwng morning they posted the photos at 5:45 am at http://daveryanshow.iheart.com/pages/news.html?feed=336979&article=11413491
In the first four hours it got 760,000 page views and 17,000 uniques.
Five Contests Your Might Not Have Heard Of...
Scar Search This was done as a remote "game" by Dr. Don in Detroit back in the day. Come by and show him your disgusting scar and win a prize. The audio reaction of the talent on the air was cringe worthy in and of itself. What is the next step? Submit, post and vote on line. "Baby Idol" but with hideous scars. Thanks to Eddie Haskell for dredging up this old name.
Let's Make A Glove Compartment Deal One of my favorite bits from Kennedy at Mix in Boston. Have your listeners gather around the inevitable table, name an item like "A comb with a logo on it" and the first person to run to their car and find one, wins.
The Secret A terrific idea from Paul Kaye at BRMB in Birmingham. Abby White test drove it on KG Country in Red Deer. It was huge. It KILLED at Star in Pittsburgh and Dave Ryan started doing it for Booty Cruise tickets at KDWB. It's simple. We have a secret. We'll maybe let it spill if you buy us a drink at (club night) or join us at (event). If you know the Secret, you can win.
Push The Pump It's Beat The Bomb, but with gas. They did it at KOB-FM in Albuquerque and were outstanding at making $50 sound like $1000
I Wheel An on-air prize wheel game at Y-94 in Fargo where you could win an iPod, iPad or eye wear.
Time to go and haze street teamers.
