For A Car Dealer
Radiowave in Windhoek has a dealer that needed something that would bring a lot of bodies out to the lot. I think they're looking at a weekly scavenger hunt type of thing. Teams of two gather at the location, are handed envelopes with a list of ten things that need to get or photograph in the area, on cue you blow a whistle, they tear open the envelopes and take off. First team back with all the items wins.
The Night Before AND Thanksgiving Nights
Are annually the biggest club nights of the year, so if you have a gig, don't allow it to go un-tweaked. One of the stations called theirs The Kiddy Table last year, but my favorite was Yam Jam. Could easily be "(Station's) First Class Reunion Of 2013" because that's basically WHAT it is.
Great Moments In Ball Drops
KOB-FM in Albuquerque and KDWB in Minneapolis have both done the "cascading balls down the staircase" for things like Britney backstage passes. "The Running Of The Balls". Mix in Boston had a pair of tickets to the first Bruins home game of the season. So, they took it to the roof. I loveX10 the guy who is the sports announcer doing the play by play. http://mix1041.radio.com/2011/10/06/karson-kennedy-bruins-ball-drop-video/
The Most Scammable Time Of The Year
If you do "Christmas Wish", then you are familiar with the avalanche of Tales 'O Woe that will descend on you when you announce the promotion. There are also going to be opportunities in the market for a morning show to go in and save some family, who has experienced a calamity or misfortune, and their home/holiday/child's medical bills.
I'm ALL about that. You can't beat a radio station that doesn't wait for big national charities to bring them radiothons, but instead jumps on these "local interest" news stories. But you should also know that...wait for it...there are bad people out there who will seize on the good will of others. When I worked at Wild in SFO, Mancow unknowingly helped save Christmas for a family...who turned out to have a record for fraud and the story in the paper DID get the station call letters right. Background checks are so easy to do. It's a good investment before helping out with one of these situations.
