CPR Promotional Check-Up - Dec 4, 2015
December 4, 2015
Every year Joel Denver sends out an email to the people he pays enormous sums of money to write for All Access, alerting us to the last day that the office will be open and we all go to Phuket on his private jet for play time with the Lady Boys. I think this is the last posting for me for 2015, so if I'm not here on Monday, you'll know where I am: The #5 Happy Fun Time Go Go Bar next to our hotel in Thailand.
And if you feel so inclined, I have some blog stuff and even ebooks for sale at www.cpr-promotions.com
Best Holiday Concert Name Of 2015
"The Jingle Nut" with Dave & Jimmy at 'NCI in Columbus. It was already half sold out within 48 hours.
A Griswold Christmas
WHO-AM in Des Moines is one of the more iconic stations in Radio and this holiday they're bringing back their home decorating project:
We actually are on the air with the morning show on Thanksgiving but the day before we broadcast the show live from a listeners home as we have a troop of professionals decorate their home elaborately inside and out for the holidays. Winner gets that service and gets to keep the thousands of dollars worth of decorations forever. And we serve them a huge holiday breakfast as we broadcast from their kitchen table. Part of the bit is that macho man Van does the outside of their house while interior decorator Bonnie does the inside. We time the broadcast so they can turn their lights on thanksgiving night.
Last Call/Last Comment
"Last Comment" as a social media contest is huge, and it's great, and a few of the companies have forbade it. So maybe look at "Last Call" as an option.
One of the companies that doesn't block the promotion is selling a fairly ginormous package of prizes for 2016, to be given away at midnight on New Years Eve. The concept is simple. The LAST person to comment in 2015, gets the prize. Is there a possibility that 100,000 people trying to comment at the same time could eff up Facebook for a couple of minutes? We could only HOPE that CNN would lead with "And (station) in (market) caused a major disruption to social media at the stroke of midnight..."
Much like when KCBQ did The Last Contest and crashed phone service to a huge part of San Diego.
The safer legal-compliant option since everyone will be drinking anyway, is to take a caller exactly at 11:59:59.
Fast Money, Quick ("No Credit? No Problem!")
We are heading into a time of the year where you may find yourself needing to raise a lot of money, quickly. The "play an annoying song until we get enough pledges" bit will do that. With "Achy Breakey Heart", Kiss in Charlotte raised $10,000 by 9 am.
"Christmas Shoes" is THE most annoying and mocked of the holiday songs. You would hit your goal in about five minutes.
