1) Who is Adventure Club?
Adventure Club is me Leighton James, and Christian Srigley, we are from Montreal, Canada.
2) How did you guys come up with the name Adventure Club?
Christian: I wasn't the one who came up with it, it was Leighton.
Leighton: It was kind of a joke, we wanted to put our stuff online and Christian was like what should we call ourselves? As a joke I said Adventure Club and we kind of just ran with it.
3) You guys started out as a punk band, how did you make the transition from a punk band to doing electronic music?
We had a studio put together to save on EP recording costs and stuff like that; we were doing our own production in our band, and when we started listening to dubstep, and hearing hardcore tracks being dubstep remixed and we started getting really into it, making our own stuff on the side. We put it out on SoundCloud and it got so much attention compared to the stuff we were doing in our actual band that we flipped the switch and started working on it legitimately.
4) Your current single is called "Wonder." tell us about the single.
That song came about very organically, our friend from Australia. Danny -- he also goes by the name Kite String Tango -- sent us over those vocals and we were blown away by them off the bat. We went to work maybe two hours after getting the vocals and everything came together really smoothly and in a matter of hours it was our favorite song on the EP.
5) You also have another single out that is breaking big in European territories: "Unleash (Life In Color Anthem 2014)". Can you tell us a little bit about that?
We love experimenting with as many genres as we can because we are new to the scene. It is fun to just explore it, so that was our 128 BPM House area. Big shout out to Zak Waters and David Solano to for jumping on that track.
6) What else are you guys currently working on right now?
Originally we planned on releasing an album, maybe settling down for a year-and-a-half and just write, write, write, but now what we want to do is just release a couple singles. Maybe a new Adventure Club Remix ... we have two in the works right now and one original that we should hopefully release in a month or two. We have been going back to our roots. I know we have not been out long enough to say we have roots, but we are going back to the older stuff that we are really feeling. We got away from it for a bit to explore, but the past couple tracks we are working on are what I think people expect from us.
7) You have done some cool remixes out there from Mike Posner to Foxes "Youth" and you also did a Britney Spears remix. Any remixes you are currently working on?
We are working on two right now. We're not going to name them but we are really excited about both. We are pretty secretive when it comes to mixes. We like to finish them off and put them online so no one steals the idea. We don't want anyone taking a really cool idea that we had and release it before we had the chance because we take so long to actually get our stuff out.
8) Is there a person you haven't worked with yet that you would like to?
Stevie Nicks or Bastille
9) How did you guys get into DJing?
We kind of had to start DJ-ing due to the music we were making. We were given the opportunity to start DJ-ing once our song took off; it was kind of an organic step once we had started getting some attention. Leighton had been DJ-ing for a year or two in Montreal.
10) Is there a favorite city you like to DJ in?
The biased answer would be Montreal; however our favorite cities would be Chicago or Denver. We love Colorado they are very advanced with their music it is awesome to play out there.
Bonus Questions
Do you remember where you were the first time you heard one of your songs on the radio?
Christian: I was hanging out in my basement and it came up on the TV Radio. I was with my brother and I was like what the fuck, this is so cool ... it was crazy that it came up.
Leighton: I was at the gym with some friends so I felt like the coolest kid ever, but the best one for me was I was at the airport, at the gate and it was "Wonder" that came on, so it was recently. I was just sitting there and I was really lost in my head and it was playing faintly in the background and I was like wait a second, this is my song ... and it was really cool because the context was so different. I was trying to scope people out tapping their feet to see what they thought.
What's one must have travel item when you are out on the road?
Leighton: My beanie.
Christian: Leighton's beanie.
Is there a favorite restaurant that you like?
Christian: Prime 112 in Miami, that was my favorite steak ever.
Leighton: I'd go with Chipotle that is our go-to; it literally keeps us alive.
