Here's an idea for you...

If you're looking for a easy to implement but still cool digital idea for your station or personality, look no further. It's called interaction in real-time, and it's insanely simple but has great potential for tremendous success.
Let's take a talk show. What is real-time interaction for the talk show? The host narrates an issue, throws in his opinion, and then usually opens the phone lines for listeners' reactions.
Let's take a music shift. What is real-time interaction for the DJ? The talent guides listeners through the playlist, and usually opens the phone lines for requests, generally speaking in real-time.
Take your digital efforts.
You post a video, share your opinion, and hope that your followers react with a comment or a re-Tweet. You share a link to your station website, share the details, and hope that your followers react with a comment or a re-Tweet.
Sometimes, though, it's not that easy to get interaction that way, is it?
Continue doing what you're doing, but put a slight spin on it. Instead of simply posing a question or thought and hoping for a reaction, invite your listeners to join in on a discussion of something you both are experiencing...all in real-time.
You might remember in March when the King of All Media, Howard Stern, exploded in the Twitter universe. He let his fans know that Private Parts was on television, sat back, and interacted with them. Stern became fully accessible in the Twitter world. Instead of Tweeting random thoughts or empty promo announcements, Stern legitimized the interaction between him and his listeners and fans.
Mashable.com did something similar on Monday. With the release of Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs, Lance Ulanoff invited readers to join him in diving into the biography and sharing their comments in the comment thread on Mashable.com. "I know many of you are reading the Steve Jobs biography today -probably right now - as well. As you read along, share your reactions in our open comment thread below."
It doesn't get much simpler than that.
So what does this mean for you?
Tell your listeners you're going to watch the Presidential debate and invite them to not only follow your thoughts on Twitter and Facebook, but to share their thoughts with YOU. Tell your listeners that tonight at 8pm sharp, you're going to listen to the latest Five Finger Death Punch album. Minute by minute, track by track, share your thoughts and invite your fans to do the same.
It's simple. It's easy. It takes little to possible no involvement from your digital team...it just takes a little dedication and hard work.
If you do something like this, let me know. I'd love to join in on the interaction!
