History Class: WIVY-FM "Y103", Jacksonville, FL
Hello all -
Looking for some help from old-timers:
Can anyone tell me who the most well-known jocks were on Y103 (WIVY) in Jacksonville, Florida in the early 1980s (80-83)?
I remember distinctly the day that the format changed, and the PD went on the air to say goodbye, and played LRB's "Cool Change" as his swan song...am writing a book and want to get my references right.
Many thanks!

Some of the other names:
Jack Diamond, Mel Arthur (Magic Jack spokesman) and Jay Moore did mornings in 83. Jack bought a small Jax Beach station of his own and quit. I took over mornings with Mel and Jay for 2 years. 83 - 85. Infinity Broadcasting was the owner in the hay days. Mel Karmzin was one of the corporate execs, GM Tom Chuisano left when Infinity sold to Gilmore Broadcasting. He went on to K-Rock in NYC where he hired Howard Stern.
Some other names of note in the early 80's Bobby "Stereo" Ocean (not the LA Bobby Ocean) and Lynn Russel (CNN) did mornings
Chuck Britton (WLS / The Loop Chicago) and Maja Piff did mornings
Dave Mann and Bobby Mitchell teamed up for a couple months before Bobby left for Detroit. They won Billboard's Medium Mkt. Jock of the Year.
Gary Rodriguez was a very creative & hands on GM who helped shape the station when it first became Y-103.
JJ Walker, perhaps better known as Spyder Harrison (Z100, has several current Sirius shows)
Boomer did nights as a screamer for a while then left to go to WQIK.
There were many more that I should but can't recall at this moment. It was a truly incredible place to work in the glory days! I have many fond memories.
Best,
Dave Scott

I remember Y103 back in the late '70's/early '80's. Peter Burns was a family friend who did the news and traffic reports with Jack Diamond. The advertising jingle was "Y103: The Hot One".
The studio was located near the intersection of University and Beach Blvd. Pete was nice enough to let me and my mom sit in during a couple of his news broadcasts back when I was 10 or 11 years old.
I vaguely remember talking with Jack a couple of times. He seemed like a nice guy.
