New album "Starlower" released on March 31
1. You had a big hit with your song "Crush" which broke through on the Pop charts and eventually went platinum. How were radio stations like KIIS/Los Angeles and Z-100/New York instrumental in breaking you through?
I hadn't even finished recording my debut album when I got a call that KIIS FM was doing a 'Fly or Die' with "Crush". Luckily, it FLEW and the rest was history!
2. Please tell us about the making of your new album "Starflowers" released on March 31st?
I wrote and recorded to entire album in Nashville, TN with producer, Jeremy Bose. It was funded by fans via Kickstarter and is my first official indie release. I knew I wasn't done musically and I guess you could say 'Starflower' is the outcome to the inner nudge I've been feeling for the last several years.
3. So far, the singles "Devil In The Details" and "Forget Me Not" are already getting some big acclaim. What are some other new songs from the album "Starflower" that you're really excited about?
'January' that seems to be striking a chord with many. It's one of the most personal songs I've written and is definitely a favorite of mine. The title track, "Starflower", was written for my little girl, Stella (Star) Rose and although it's not your typical 'mommy song' (I doubt listeners would connect those dots), it will always be special to me for that reason.

4. You recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for your forthcoming album, and it looks like you're well on your way to being funded for this project. What can you tell us about launching a campaign like this and what have you learned in the process?
What a crazy experience! It's almost one of those things you have to go through personally to understand! Once you hit that "Submit" button, it's ON! ;) It's a vulnerable position to put yourself in with moments of doubt and victory. It was an intense bonding experience with the fans as they rallied behind me in a way I wasn't expecting. Can you imagine the ownership they will feel if this thing flies? What a cool concept, really. I'm really happy I did it. Although my life span may have been shortened slightly by stress...ha! ;)
5. How are you using social media these days to connect with your audience? What are you doing differently to market your music these days as opposed to when you started?
I use a lot of pictures and behind the scenes videos in life in general, as opposed to just music. It's a much more personal connection and doesn't feel as one sided to always be talking about a new release.
6. Please describe your experience the first time you heard your song on the radio and the thrill of watching it become a big hit record?
I was at my house in Manhattan Beach, CA and called my parents in GA screaming as soon as my name was announced. It was a moment I will never forget! It was a childhood dream coming to life!
7. You launched a music business Podcast a couple of years ago from your home in Nashville. Please tell us about this experience and what you learned about being on the other side of the mic?
I did! I have been fascinated by the business side of music for many years, since I started my career at such a young age. It felt like the right thing to share what I have learned so far while hearing from super smart artists and professionals. I loved hosting. I found the conversations so interesting and inspiring. Ultimately, I knew I needed to take my own advice and go make a record.
8. You had the honor of singing for Pope John Paul II live at the Vatican. How did you get that gig and what was it like meeting His Holiness?
I was asked to represent my generation (at the time) for a Christmas concert at the Vatican. It was one of the highlights of my career, thus far! A memory I will cherish always.
9. We heard you're recording music for commercials and other sync projects lately? What have you learned about this side of the business and what are some of the spots or other places where we might we have heard you?
Hmmm....YES! You might have heard me on commercials like Betty Crocker, Nationwide, Overstock.com ... I've learned to see music, not just hear it.
10. Who are some of the artists we might find on your playlist these days?
Tove Lo, Erik Hassle, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, The xx
Bonus Questions
What do you do in your spare time?
I spend my free days with my little one, who is 2 ½. We get outdoors every chance we get. She has opened up a whole new good time for the hubby and me. I love working hard so I can chill with those two when the day is done!
Who are some of the artists who have influenced your career?
In the early days as a kid in Georgia, it was Dolly Parton. In school, it was Mariah, Whitney and Celine. I discovered Annie Lennox and Etta James later, and today's list might include Ellie Goulding, Sia and Adele. I love to listen to strong women do their thing.
How do you balance your family life?
My hubby is my biggest supporter. He likes to see me do well and he knows that takes effort so, even though our life isn't always predictable, we have a ton of fun together and we try to make the most of the time we have.
