May 24, 2016
I recently was consoling my daughter on something bothered her a great deal. I told her, as someone once told me and I call upon all the time, "It's not as bad as it seems RIGHT NOW."
It's sort of the old "Count To 10" rule before you react. You may be different, but most people react emotionally, particularly to bad news -- and the key word there is we REACT and don't properly process. C'mon, you've done it. You've fired off a fiery reactionary e-mail or said something you wish you hadn't 24 hours later.
Just think to yourself, "It's not as bad as it seems right now." Then come back to it in a few hours or the next day and I'll bet 99% of the time you will see you were right ... It's not!
