You never know from where great leads may come. I've written before about how important it is for GMs to be very involved in the community; serving on boards, promoting volunteerism and attending charity galas and events.
On several occasions, either serving on or being introduced to board members are usually prominent people in the community. Guess what? They're business owners, C-level managers and decision makers.
When they see your commitment to doing goodwill, they want to partner with like-minded businesses. So get out there. It will be worth it on many levels.
