"Imagine" is a
song remade by singer-songwriting Dolly Parton originally written and
performed by John Lennon. Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19th,
1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee as the fourth of 12 children. Dolly
Parton began performing for radio shows at the age of 9. Then, at age
13, Dolly met Johnny Cash at the Grand Ole Opry. Mr. Cash encouraged Ms.
Parton to follow her heart regardless of what other people thought. In
1967, Dolly P. released her first single, “Just Because I’m A Woman”. It
was somewhat popular and made it to 17th place on the radio charts. For
some time, Dolly sang in the Pop genre. This time served up singles such
as, “Heartbreaker”, “Two Doors Down”, and the wildly popular “Here You
Come Again”. However, she returned to her Country roots in 1987 with the
album “Trio” which she co-authored with Emmylou Harris and Linda
Ronstadt. This album made it to the number one spot on the Country
charts for five weeks. John Lennon’s “Imagine” was covered by Dolly
Parton in her 2005 release, “Those Were the Days”. “Those Were the Days”
was produced by Sugar Hill Records. “Imagine” was made into a music
video which features rare footage of the legendary John Lennon.
“Imagine” is an idealist song. Lennon says that it is an,
“anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional,
anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted.”
Further, he went on to say that it is, “virtually the Communist
Manifesto”.
