December 20, 2011 at 4:43 AM (PT)
Condolences to the family and friends of longtime WBAL/BALTIMORE host RON SMITH, who died following a brief, public battle with pancreatic cancer. THE TOWSON PATCH reports "SMITH died in hospice care at his SHREWSBURY, PA home surrounded by his wife and family."
He was 70.
In OCTOBER, SMITH let his listeners know that he had been diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer, and said he would continue his show while pursuing treatment. In NOVEMBER (NET NEWS 11/28), SMITH announced that treatment was ineffective and that he would continue to do the show as often as he felt well. Later that month, he retired, citing failing health.
