Mike Francesa Speculates About Own Future At WFAN

Longtime CBS RADIO Sports WFAN-A/NEW YORK afternoon host MIKE FRANCESA told NEWSDAY's NEIL BEST in an interview appearing in today's edition that he is "leaning toward leaving" the station when his contract expires in MARCH 2014.
FRANCESA, who has hosted afternoons at the station since 1989 (with CHRIS "MAD DOG" RUSSO until 2008), told BEST that continuing with WFAN after the end of his present contract was "50-50, at best ... I'm even saying I'm leaning toward leaving ... When you've done the same thing every day for 25 years, having an idea of maybe a new venture or opportunity has some allure, there's no question." He said, however, that he would "never" leave to take a similar job with a rival station, and on the possibility of reuniting with RUSSO (now at SIRIUS XM RADIO), FRANCESA joked, "I would say there's a better chance that the METS win the pennant."
'I'm even saying I'm leaning toward leaving...'
"I'm leaning," FRANCESA said, warning that he has not made a decision. "I'm not here making any proclamations. I have a lot to think about ... But I don't see me doing nothing. I don't think I'm cut out to do nothing. I just don't know what I see me doing."
OM MARK CHERNOFF responded to FRANCESA's comments by e-mailing BEST, "We love MIKE and hope he's here for a long time!"
