Van Halen Rocks Cafe Wha?

"It took us 50 years to land this gig ... it was easier to get into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME," quipped DAVID LEE ROTH during an amazing performance by VAN HALEN last night (1/5) at the legendary CAFE WHA? in NEW YORK CITY's GREENWICH VILLAGE.
The small basement club -- which has served as a launching pad for numerous artists ranging from BOB DYLAN and PETER, PAUL & MARY to JIMI HENDRIX and KOOL & THE GANG -- was owned by ROTH's uncle for many years. Ninety-two-year-old MANNY ROTH was in attendance last night to watch his nephew, who first visited the club when he was seven years old, perform with the band that he rejoined in 2007 after a 22-year hiatus.
The band opened their set with blistering versions of "You Really Got Me" and "Running With The Devil." They played all of their greatest hits -- and one new song, "She's The Woman," and closed the set with "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" and an encore featuring "Jump."
Look for VAN HALEN's new label, INTERSCOPE, to release a new single and video on TUESDAY, JANUARY 10th, with a new album -- the first to feature ROTH since the band's iconic 1984 album -- on FEBRUARY 7th. They'll kick off a tour -- playing much larger venues -- on FEBRUARY 18th in LOUISVILLE.
KOOL & THE GANG will join VAN HALEN for select tour dates.
