MEDIA MONITORS' study of political radio spots in the runup to the upcoming SOUTH CAROLINA Republican primary showed that while MITT ROMNEY's campaign led all spenders, RICK SANTORUM is second, and RON PAUL third, the real impact is from spots purchased by "Super PACs" supporting or attacking candidates and issues.
In that category, the WINNING OUR FUTURE PAC, which is aligned with NEWT GINGRICH, has purchased more spots by far than anyone else, with 764 anti-ROMNEY and 607 pro-GINGRICH spots. The RESTORE OUR FUTURE PAC, aligned with ROMNEY, bought 433 anti-GINGRICH, 71 anti-SANTORUM, and 138 pro-ROMNEY spots, and the NUMBERSUSA PAC bought 59 spots on the immigration issue.
MEDIA MONITORS notes that the GINGRICH campaign has purchased no spots of its own but has benefited from the WINNING OUR FUTURE PAC spots, with more spots either pro-GINGRICH or anti-ROMNEY airing than those from the combined ROMNEY-RESTORE OUR FUTURE PAC efforts.
