MTR/Melbourne's Sam Newman Says He Quit Over Censorship Of 'F-Bomb'

HARBOR RADIO Talk 3MP (MTR 1377)/MELBOURNE morning host SAM NEWMAN has resigned from the station in the wake of a controversy over his attempted use of the "F-bomb" on the air, reports the MELBOURNE HERALD SUN.
NEWMAN said that he left the station eight weeks before the expiration of his contract in frustration that the station censored his use of the "F-word" in a discussion of whether the word is still offensive, in light of the government approving a trademark for UNIVERSAL TRADING AUSTRALIA for a nut brand, "Nucking Futs." The station cut the swearing without his knowledge, he said, and later called it a misunderstanding, but NEWMAN said that it was enough for him to resign.
Fellow MTR local host STEVE PRICE said that he thinks the incident was "normal practice" and that NEWMAN more likely "decided that he's had enough of breakfast radio I suspect, I think he was just using that as an excuse to go off and play more golf or spend more time on his yacht."
