Sen. CHARLES GRASSLEY (R-IA) continues to hold up confirmation of JESSICA ROSENWORCEL and AJIT PAI to the FCC while he continues to demand documents related to the controversial LIGHTSQUARED waiver, and BROADCASTING AND CABLE's JOHN EGGERTON reports that GRASSLEY is now asking FCC Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI for a meeting with outgoing Chief of the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy PAUL DE SA before DE SA's exit next month.
GRASSLEY, in a letter to GENACHOWSKI, complained that while the Chairman promised he would make staff available to discuss the LIGHTSQUARED case, he was informed that DE SA was not available. GRASSLEY, who has voiced concern that the process by which LIGHTSQUARED received a waiver to use frequencies that abut the GPS frequencies, requested a meeting with DE SA before JANUARY 31st. The Commission has declined to produce the documents because GRASSLEY is not the Chairman of any of the committees involved in the case, although he is ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
