AMERICA PUBLIC MEDIA's CLASSICAL SOUTH FLORIDA, owner of Classical WKCP/MIAMI and WPBI/WEST PALM BEACH, will expand its programming to the FORT MYERS market with the acquisition of Contemporary Christian WAYJ/FORT MYERS from WAY MEDIA, INC. for an undisclosed price. WAY will in turn buy Religion WSRX/NAPLES from FAMILY CHRISTIAN BROADCAST NETWORK and will move its Contemporary Christian WAY-FM programming to WSRX's 89.5 FM frequency. EDDIE ESSERMAN of MEDIA SERVICES GROUP served as exclusive broker for the deal, representing WAY MEDIA.
"WAY-FM started in FORT MYERS back in 1987," said WAY MEDIA Founder and President BOB AUGSBURG. "SOUTHWEST FLORIDA is still very strategic for us, and we're simply moving a short way up the dial. Most listeners will hear us on 89.5 FM, while those in CHARLOTTE COUNTY will be able to tune us in at 100.5FM. We're excited about this switch, which will allow WAY MEDIA to launch a suite of new digital initiatives."
"We're tremendously excited to have the opportunity to bring classical music back to the SOUTHWEST FLORIDA airwaves," said CSF President and GM DOUGLAS C. EVANS. "CLASSICAL SOUTH FLORIDA was launched in SOUTHEAST FLORIDA in the fall of 2007, and its programming can now be heard from the upper KEYS to the PALM BEACHES and TREASURE COAST. Soon our programming will reach SOUTHWEST FLORIDA as well, from FORT MYERS to NAPLES and MARCO ISLAND."
The deals are pending FCC approval and no program changes are likely to take place before spring.
