Report: Citadel/Cumulus Files Countersuit Against Paul Finebaum

CUMULUS MEDIA has filed a countersuit against Sports WJOX/BIRMINGHAM host PAUL FINEBAUM, the latest legal salvo in the ongoing contract dispute between the broadcasting company (and its predecessor in WJOX ownership CITADEL) and the station's star host. The BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL's EVAN BELANGER reports that the countersuit alleges that FINEBAUM violated his contract by talking to a competing station about moving his show as early as 2009, disclosing confidential information in the process.
The JOURNAL also reports that FINEBAUM's initial suit, which moved from state to federal court and back again, has been reassigned by JEFFERSON COUNTY Circuit Judge HELEN LEE SHORES to the county's commercial litigation docket.
FINEBAUM is suing CITADEL alleging that the company used coercion to get him to sign an unfavorable amendment to his contract and threatened to cancel his show if he did not sign. COX MEDIA GROUP has widely been reported to be interested in having FINEBAUM join its Sports WNCB (97.3 THE ZONE)/BIRMINGHAM if he can extricate himself from his WJOX contract.
