MIDWEST COMMUNICATIONS Talk WSAU-A-F/WAUSAU, WI "WISCONSIN MORNING NEWS" host PAT SNYDER has announced that he will run for the WISCONSIN State Assembly this year. The station reports that SNYDER will run as a Republican for the 85th Assembly District seat being vacated by Democrat DONNA SEIDEL, who will be running in a special recall election against incumbent Sen. PAM GALLOWAY (R-WAUSAU) for a Senate seat.
The station will allow SNYDER to remain on the air while he runs for office, and potential election foe JEFF JOHNSON, Chair of the MARATHON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY, said that the company is "opening themselves up to some liability. The case could be made very easily that they are providing an in-kind donation every time they let him on the air.” However, equal time rules allow a candidate to remain employed on the air up to 60 days before a general election and 45 days before a primary, and the station will allow SNYDER to stay on through the end of JULY if he has a primary opponent or until the end of AUGUST if he does not.
