Minor league baseball's TUCSON PADRES will be on the radio this season, with CLEAR CHANNEL Tejano KXEW-A (RADIO TEJANO 1600)/TUCSON carrying all of the team's games in English this season. TIM HAGERTY will call the action for his second season with the club. The PADRES, the Triple-A affiliate of the SAN DIEGO PADRES, did not have terrestrial radio coverage last season after its temporary relocation to TUCSON from PORTLAND, airing games online instead.
"Our biggest request from fans was to make sure we get all games on a traditional radio station this year," said TUCSON PADRES VP/GM MIKE FEDER. "This broadcast agreement gives our fans a strong AM signal that covers the metro area. We are thrilled to join forces with CLEAR CHANNEL."
"CLEAR CHANNEL MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT are extremely excited about our radio broadcast partnership with the TUCSON PADRES for the 2012 season," said CLEAR CHANNEL LSM RODNEY SHEPHERD. "When we have an opportunity to support our local sports teams and share a winning brand of baseball with our listeners, it is always a home run!"
The PADRES moved from PORTLAND after losing the use of then-PGE PARK (now JELD-WEN FIELD), which was redeveloped into a soccer configuration for the MLS' PORTLAND TIMBERS. The relocation was intended to be temporary while awaiting approval of a new ballpark in ESCONDIDO, CA, but a law change in CALIFORNIA abolishing redevelopment agencies brought the ESCONDIDO project to a halt and the team is for sale.
