Radio managers ask all the time, "Should we be selling FACEBOOK?" The demand from clients may be increasing but the fact that clients (and radio stations) have this "need to sell FACEBOOK" approach is simply a basic deficiency of education in this social space.
JACOBS MEDIA Dir./Digital and Social Strategies and MERGE author LORI LEWIS dives into the culture of FACEBOOK and the importance of respecting the primary purpose behind the platform. LEWIS says, "FACEBOOK was designed to strengthen how people relate to each other and to elevate their capacity to maintain relationships. Selling status updates and allowing 'ads' to show up in your fans' 'live feeds' interferes with the reason people are on this platform in the first place."
This week's MERGE offers insight into how FACEBOOK is a unique opportunity for radio to tap into a whole new league of listeners "and build a pretty unique database," but only if you're aware of what you're even doing on FACEBOOK.
