Energy & Commerce Committee Sends FCC Reform Bill To House Floor
March 6, 2012 at 12:23 PM (PT)
As expected, the House Energy and Commerce Committee has approved the FCC reform bill introduced by Rep. GREG WALDEN (R-OR) and has sent the bills for a full floor vote.
The bill, which THE HILL reports passed on a 31-16 vote and is unlikely to survive a Senate vote or a Presidential veto if passed by the full House, would require the Commission to identify a market failure, consumer harm or regulatory barrier before adopting any new regulations and would restrict the Commission from adding restrictions to approvals of merger deals unless the conditions directly address specific harms arising from the merger.
An amendment proposed by Rep. ANNA ESHOO (D-CA) that would have required buyers of political ads to disclose their largest donors was rejected along party lines.
