Former Trammps Lead Singer Jimmy Ellis Passes

R&B disco singer JAMES T “JIMMY” ELLIS, lead singer of THE TRAMMPS, died THURSDAY, MARCH 8th at a nursing home in his native ROCK HILL, SC. He had been the lead singer of the PHILADELPHIA-based disco funk band, which released several singles in the 1970s, including their Top 10 disco hit “Disco Inferno.”
The song helped drive sales of the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack to 15 million, making it the second highest selling soundtrack of all time (behind “Bodyguard.”) The band continued to tour until 2010.
In addition to his daughter, ERIKA STINSON, ELLIS is survived by his wife , BEVERLY, son JAMES III, three brothers, a sister, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held next week in CHARLOTTE NC.
