As he threatened before CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WHAS-A/LOUISVILLE host TERRY MEINERS was found not guilty by a JEFFERSON COUNTY District Court jury of speeding, the ticketing officer has filed a defamation suit against MEINERS and CLEAR CHANNEL for on-air comments about the incident.
The LOUISVILLE COURIER-JOURNAL reports that Officer SAM CROMITY, who had threatened to sue MEINERS for disparaging him after the ticket incident in MARCH 2011, filed suit THURSDAY in JEFFERSON COUNTY Circuit Court, demanding a trial and punitive damages. MEINERS, who had allegedly called CROMITY a "liar," and "Black Car Barney" (CROMITY is African-American; MEINERS said that the "Black" referred to outlaw Black Bart and ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW character BARNEY FIFE) was found not guilty of the underlying speeding ticket (75 mph in a 55 mph zone) in NOVEMBER (NET NEWS 11/15).
MEINERS' attorney STEVE PENCE told the COURIER-JOURNAL that the suit is "nothing but sour grapes by this LMPD officer ... This officer’s feelings are hurt, and unfortunately he won’t let it go."
