DELAWARE FIRST MEDIA plans to sign on its newly-acquired noncommercial WDDE/DOVER, DE as what it calls the first DELAWARE-focused public radio station. DELAWARE FIRST, which bought the station from SALISBURY UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION INC. for $24,000, is partnering with the UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE and DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY in the project, with DSU's campus serving as the site for the new station.
Former BOSTON UNIVERSITY News-Talk WBUR/BOSTON PD GEORGE BOOSEY will serve as GM, with DELAWARE FIRST's DFM NEWS' TOM BYRNE as News Dir.; former NPR "WEEKEND EDITION SUNDAY" host LIANE HANSEN is also part of the team developing the station. Sign-on for the NPR affiliate is projected for this SUMMER.
"WDDE is a major step in DELAWARE's evolution as a state with a strong news media that connects Delawareans downstate and upstate to create a shared community culture," said DELAWARE FIRST Pres. MICHELINE BOUDREAU. "We are thrilled to launch this project with the strong sponsorship of DELAWARE's premier universities."
