Premature Use Of New Tower Earns Texas AM An FCC Fine

The FCC has fined JOHN L. WHITE $4,000 for operating Classic Country KOLJ-A (formerly KREL-A)/QUANAH, TX at variance with his license.
The station was knocked off the air in 2008 in severe storms, and the former licensee MEDIA TECHNOLOGY got an STA to remain silent. WHITE took over and put the station back on the air in 2009 but with a tower with a different height from the original; he filed for an STA for the new facility but the Commission determined that he had operated with the replacement tower before getting approval to do so. The fine was reduced from $7,000 due to WHITE's financial situation.
