CHRISTIAN MUSIC BROADCASTERS (CMB) announced the establishment of the RICH MULLINS ARTIST IMPACT AWARD. The award will be presented to an artist or group to recognize their long-time contributions to the music and ministry of Christian Radio.
In establishing the award, CMB felt that honoring RICH MULLINS was only natural. MULLINS was a songwriter and artist whose influence continues to be felt years after his death. A winner of multiple DOVE AWARDS, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, his songs such as “Sing Your Praise To The Lord," “Sometimes by Step,” “Hold Me Jesus,” “Creed,” “My Deliverer” and “Awesome God” helped to define the Christian radio format in the 1980s and 1990s. His love for Jesus and his commitment to the poor and most vulnerable of all humanity was at the heart of everything he did. MULLINS died in an automobile accident just outside of BLOOMINGTON, IL in 1997.
Like the SCOTT CAMPBELL INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD and ROB GREGORY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD, artists may be nominated for the RICH MULLINS ARTIST IMPACT AWARD by any CMB member with the winner being chosen by a select panel of voters.
The new award along with other special awards and the 2012 CMB RADIO STATION OF THE YEAR AWARDS will be presented during MOMENTUM 2012 in ORLANDO in SEPTEMBER.
