Funding for public broadcasting is being challenged once again on CAPITOL HILL, with Sen. JIM DEMINT (R-SC) and Rep. DOUG LAMBORN (R-CO) circulating letters among their colleagues seeking support for defunding the CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING, according to a report by BROADCASTING AND CABLE's JOHN EGGERTON.
The letters are critical of CPB's request for $445 million in advance appropriations, saying, "We simply cannot afford to continue funding all of the programs that we have in the past."
Among legislators to sign on thus far, according to an unnamed source of BROADCASTING AND CABLE's, are Sens. RON JOHNSON (R-WI), PAT TOOMEY (R-PA), JEFF SESSIONS (R-AL), JOHN CORNYN (R-TX), and TOM COBURN (R-OK).
