The owner of the UTAH JAZZ, the LARRY H. MILLER GROUP, is finalizing a deal to buy Sports KZNS-A-F (97.5 THE ZONE)/SALT LAKE CITY from SLC DIVESTITURE TRUST I (the trust headed by LARRY PATRICK selling SIMMONS MEDIA spinoffs in the SALT LAKE market) for an undisclosed price, reports the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE.
The purchase would move JAZZ play-by-play from its longtime home at CUMULUS Sports KFNZ-A (THE FAN), which the MILLER GROUP has been programming under an LMA (JAZZ and LHM SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT GROUP President RANDY RIGBY told the TRIBUNE that after the sale of CITADEL to CUMULUS, the latter "now says that they like to run their stations and not do LMAs. We said, ‘We’ve got to control our destiny.’"
Since THE FAN's lineup has been programmed by the MILLER GROUP, the deal would likely move hosts as well as the JAZZ to THE ZONE. RIGBY said that the plan is to "take the best" from each station.
