The first meeting of the national board of the newly-merged SAG-AFTRA resulted in the confirmation of DAVID WHITE to continue as National Executive Director with a new three-year contract expiring MAY 21st, 2015. The deal actually represents just a 15-month extension, since WHITE's present deal expires in FEBRUARY 2014.
"I am pleased with the Board's action and am grateful for their vote of confidence. We've achieved a tremendous success with our recent merger, but there is much more to be done and I look forward to working with the officers, directors and our talented staff team to continue to improve our operations and further empower and serve the members of SAG-AFTRA," said WHITE.
"DAVID has clearly shown his management acumen and ability to direct our organization and lead our staff in implementing critical operational initiatives. There is no better person to lead SAG-AFTRA and we are thrilled that he will continue as national executive director," said Co-Presidents KEN HOWARD and ROBERTA REARDON.
The board also approved a $95 million budget for fiscal 2013 including $2.7 million from reserves to cover transition costs and allocations for several upcoming contract negotiations, and set JULY 2nd as the start of the union's "wages and working conditions" process regarding the commercials contract, with the board to appoint a "National Commercials Contracts Wages & Working Conditions Plenary Committee" of 17 members and 9 alternatives to work on the project. Assistant National Executive Director of Sound Recordings RANDALL HIMES told the board that negotiations with the major record labels on music video production had seen "substantial movement," but the board also authorized WHITE to issue a Do Not Work Order for music videos if negotiations take a turn towards the unproductive.
