WFUV Honored with Multiple News and Sports Awards

The news and sports departments of FORDHAM UNIVERSITY Triple A WFUV/NEW YORK were honored with several awards again this year:
THE NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATED PRESS BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION announced on JUNE 2nd that the station had earned first place in two categories. One was Best News Series for "The New Normal," a 10 part series by the WFUV news department, including professional staff and FORDHAM UNIVERSITY students under the direction of GEORGE BODARKY, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The other went to WFUV student broadcasters MIKE GIANDOMENICO and JOHN DEMARZO for Best Sports Coverage for "The Baseball Biker," about a man who traveled 10,700 miles across country to visit every Major League ballpark on his bicycle. In both cases the students were being judged against professional competition.
THE NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATED PRESS BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION also gave special mention to recent FORDHAM graduate KATIE MOORE in the Best Regularly Scheduled Local News Program category and to GEORGE BODARKY for A "Revealing" Conversation as Best Interview. Lastly, "Hope Week 2011: The Yankees Give Back" was given special mention in the Sports Coverage category.
THE GRACIE AWARD, given by the ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA FOUNDATION, was presented to three former student employees. I n the Outstanding Interview Program or Feature category, KATE MCGEE won for "Grieving in the Digital Age" and MORLENE CHIN took the Outstanding Hard News Feature prize for "Breaking the Silence: Domestic Violence in the Muslim Community." And, KATIE MOORE took the prize for Outstanding Anchor News or News Magazine.
WFUV also recently received awards from THE NEW YORK PRESS CLUB and THE NEW YORK STATE BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION. From the press club, KYLE KESSES won the award for Best Sports News-Radio for "61 is 50: Remembering Roger." COLIN HENDERSON won the award for Best Sportscast with "One on One Scoreboard" from the broadcasters association.
