June 13, 2012 at 10:59 AM (PT)
Yesterday (6/12), the walls of Studio A inside the historic CAPITOL RECORDS tower reverberated with the sounds of screaming young females, select members of the media, and label heavies. All were there for the U.S. debut performance by CONOR MAYNARD, a 19-year old U.K. singer-songwriter who hit making producer PHARRELL WILLIAMS says “…will change the future of pop music.” Indeed, the singer currently has the 7th most subscribed YouTube channel in the U.K. and recently won MTV UK’s “Brand New For 2012.”
Backed by a trio of musicians, he tore through several tracks from his forthcoming album "Contrast," including “Animal,” “Pictures” and “Can't Say No,” his debut single in the U.K. which hit #2 and to date has logged 8.7 million YOUTUBE views. He even paid tribute to one of his favorite performers, DRAKE, with a medley of “Crew Love” and “Marvin’s Room,” then closed his set with “Vegas Girl,” which will be the official US debut single next month.
L.A. radio was represented by KYSR PD and KIIS APD/MD JULIE PILAT, plus KAMP (97.1 AMP RADIO) night slammer MCCABE, who were enjoying the performance along with ALL ACCESS’ radio editor ED BROWN. We thank our CAPITOL hosts, EVP/Marketing /Promotion GREG THOMPSON, SVP/Promotion DENNIS REESE, VP/Top 40 JOE RAINEY, Sr. Dir./Pop Promotion MEGAN YOUNGBLOOD and West Coast rep BRIEN TERRANOVA for the afternoon of fun, food and great entertainment.
