GUARANTY BROADCASTING Talk WBRP (TALK 107.3)/BATON ROUGE's afternoon host BILL PROFITA is devoting his show MONDAY (6/18) to advocating the placement of FM radio tuner chips in cell phones. The NAB has advocated putting the chips in phones, most recently using the argument that broadcast radio is more reliable than cell networks in emergencies. PROFITA will host BATON ROUGE Mayor KIP HOLDEN, LOUISIANA STATE POLICE Superintendent Col. MIKE EDMUNDSON, Sheriff SID GAUTREAUX, CBS affiliate WAFB-TV's SANDY BREELAND, and other guest advocating the move.
VP GORDY RUSH, in a press release about the show, said, "Having worked at GUARANTY BROADCASTING during both hurricanes KATRINA and GUSTAV, words can't describe the obligation we felt as broadcasters to keep listeners informed 24-7, knowing that the majority of electricity was out in our community. We knew that we were the primary means of informing and assisting our community at the time."
PROFITA, in the same press release, said, "Radio is always the most important link in any natural disaster such as a hurricane. We are first with the information and we are continuous with it. That's why having the FM chip in our cell phones is so important."
