House Panel Drops Amendment Blocking FCC Online Political File Rules For TV

The House Appropriations Committee has voted to drop its opposition to the FCC's online political file rules, deleting an amendment to the FCC appropriations bill that would have blocked funding for the implementation of the rules aimed at television stations, reports MULTICHANNEL NEWS.
The amendment passed a subcommittee two weeks ago but has now been replaced by its sponsor, Rep. JO ANN EMERSON (R-MO), with another amendment requiring the General Accounting Office to study the rule's impact, a compromise that will allow the FCC to implement the rule (which initially only affects CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX affiliates in the largest markets, with other TV stations affected in two years) and the appropriations bill to move forward.
The rules still require approval from the Office of Management and Budget.
