NRG MEDIA Talk KLIN-A-K233AN/LINCOLN, NE PD/"JACK AND JOHN IN THE MORNING" co-host JOHN BISHOP is heading to OMAHA to take over the co-hosting reins of sister Sports KOZN-A (1620AM THE ZONE)'s afternoon "UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT" show alongside MIKE'L SEVERE. BISHOP is stepping in as MATT SCHICK, who had just recently been announced as KEVIN KUGLER's replacement on the show, exits himself to take a position with cable network ESPNU. KUGLER had previously exited the show to take on duties at the BIG TEN NETWORK (BTN).
"This is truly an exciting time for me as I have always been passionate about sports -- especially NEBRASKA sports. To be asked to join 1620 THE ZONE, MIKE'L SEVERE and the most successful sports/talk program in the MIDWEST is an unbelievable honor. I hope the listeners will enjoy me as much as they did KEVIN KUGLER and I can carry on the tradition of UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT," said BISHOP.
OM NEIL NELKIN, philosophical about having two hosts snapped up by major cable networks, said, "We hire great talent on THE ZONE as it's a station sports figures and leaders tune to. BISHOP is well-known throughout sports circles in NEBRASKA, namely as a distinguished sportscaster with decades of experience with HUSKER athletics, CREIGHTON sports and the College World Series. Bishop more than has the credentials, experience and the chops for this role on The ZONE ... now I want to keep him for a while."
"This is the best of both worlds for 1620AM THE ZONE listeners. We have earned a superstar talent in having JOHN join our team as he is so well-respected with listeners in both ONAHA and LINCOLN and he and MIKE'L have great chemistry. This is a winning combination that I know listeners will love to hear on UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT," said Market Manager ANDY RUBACK.
Gary Sharp In For Mornings
Meanwhile, the station's new morning show has a new co-host to join former NEBRASKA football standout JASON PETER starting AUGUST 6th, as former NEBRASKA SPORTS NETWORK host/reporter GARY SHARP signs on as Sports Director for THE ZONE and sister Sports KZOT-A (1180 THE ZONE 2). SHARP has 16 years of sports marketing experience, including with minor league baseball's FORT MYERS MIRACLE and the NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to return to radio at a great station and most importantly to return to NEBRASKA. We've had some great success here in FORT MYERS and I will miss the people and relationships I have developed in baseball," said SHARP. "I am sure JASON is chomping at the bit to get started and I am sure we will have some spirited sports conversations that will make great radio."
