SOUTH FLORIDA gossip columnist JOSE LAMBIET has a report at his GOSSPIEXTRA.COM site discussing the story of local radio legend NEIL ROGERS' estate as the administration of the estate has come to an end.
ROGERS, who was one of the market's highest-paid personalities when his tenure at BEASLEY Sports WQAM-A/MIAMI ended, died on CHRISTMAS Eve 2010, and his friend and attorney NORM KENT tells LAMBIET that the battle for ROGERS' estate ended with the IRS taking most of it, with about $500,000 going to the government and $100,000 to trustees and lawyers.
"He spent too much time at the horse track,” said KENT. “At least, he spent a lot of his money. He had $4 million four years ago ... NEIL cashed in taxable annuities." KENT also noted that ROGERS had an "infatuation" with a 21-year-old man in TORONTO, leading to his purchase of a house for $700,000. "There's nothing left," KENT concluded.
