Condolences to family and friends of longtime TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS President ANN ARNOLD, who died SATURDAY at her office in AUSTIN after a long battle with leukemia at 67, according to the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN.
ARNOLD (born BEVERLY ANN WATSON) served as President of the TAB since 1987 following a long career in print journalism, notably in the AUSTIN bureaus of the DALLAS TIMES-HERALD and FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. In 1983, she became Press Secretary to Governor MARK WHITE before taking the TAB job. At the TAB, membership doubled, the organization moved into new headquarters and became a major force in pushing for open government laws. She was honored with the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas’ James Madison Award in 2001 and the TAB's own lifetime achievement award in 2008.
