A MILWAUKEE talk show host is organizing a rally to protest what a rival talker said on the air about a man who died while being arrested in an incident last year. MILWAUKEE RADIO ALLIANCE Talk WMCS-A host EARL INGRAM is planning a rally on THURSDAY (10/4) to protest CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WISN-A host MARK BELLING's characterization of DEREK WILLIAMS, the man who died in the back of a squad car and whose death was reclassified from a "natural death" to homicide last week, reopening the police brutality case, as a "dirty, rotten thug."
The MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL's JAMES A. CAUSEY, who co-hosts INGRAM's show on THURSDAYs, is joining INGRAM in criticizing BELLING, but while INGRAM is demanding an apology, CAUSEY says that he isn't sure an apology "will make a difference because it will not be sincere. BELLING crossed the line when he called WILLIAMS a thug."
WILLIAMS, 22, was arrested for robbery after a chase and complained that he could not breathe; a video shows officers ignoring WILLIAMS' pleas for help, telling him "you're breathing fine" and "stop messing around" before the suspect passed out. He died after undergoing 45 minutes of CPR.
