Televisa Misses Univision Bid Deadline

In a last-minute surprise, the most prominent bidder for UNIVISION failed to make a bid before the company's deadline for submissions.
The NEW YORK TIMES reports that GRUPO TELEVISA missed the deadline after THE CARLYLE GROUP, one of several equity firms involved in TELEVISA's consortium, pulled out in an alleged dispute over the bidding price. TELEVISA remains in the game, however, with a late bid likely and UNIVISION also likely to waive the deadline; the TIMES reports that UNIVISION and a rival bidder headed by producer HAIM SABAN are speculating that the missed bid was an attempt by TELEVISA to drive down the ultimate price for the network.
