Microsoft Launches Xbox Music Tomorrow

PANDORA, SPOTIFY and other webcasters are about to get a new competitor, as MICROSOFT's Internet music service, XBOX MUSIC, will roll out starting TOMORROW (10/16) on XBOX and next week on PCs with the new WINDOWS 8 operating system. MICROSOFT's Principal Program Mgr. for the project SCOTT PORTER said XBOX MUSIC will offer unlimited advertising-supported streaming of free music on computers and tablets, and a $9.99 per month service for XBOX and mobile phones.
An app for WINDOWS 8 phones is scheduled to be released in NOVEMBER.
In addition to streaming music, customers who prefer to buy music, can use the service to do that -- putting it in competition with APPLE's iTUNES an AMAZON's music store.
"This gives MICROSOFT a strong music story which they’ve lacked for years and extends the XBOX brand to media and entertainment," GARTNER Analyst MICHAEL GARTENBERG told THE WASHINGTON POST. "A free streaming service with ads every 15 or 20 minutes is pretty compelling. This is will put a lot of pressure on the SPOTIFYs, the RDIOs and PANDORAs."
